Google Images: how to describe your profile photos

Google does not look at your photos the way a person does: it reads the text that comes with them. That is why, with the Elite plan, each photo on your profile can carry a short sentence describing it.

The exclusive website and photo captions are part of the Elite plan. The basic profile is free.

What are Google Images and photo captions?

A short sentence that tells Google what each photo shows.

The essentials, step by step

  1. Google does not “see” photos the way a person does: it reads the text that comes with them. With a short sentence per photo, it can understand them and show them in Google Images.
  2. Up to 110 characters and no contact details. Describe what can be seen and where.

Example: “Portrait in a black dress on a terrace in Marbella”

Frequently asked questions

Can I put my phone number in a photo caption?

No. Photo captions do not accept contact details; your contact buttons are already on your profile.

Is it mandatory?

No, but it helps Google and people who use a screen reader. A few seconds per photo is enough.
